Wells (Hand-Dug) - $1,750

In an effort to help provide clean water to villages we seek to do so through one of two solutions. The first is a hand dug well. With oversight from a village Pastor we commission Burkinabe to dig wells during the dry season (January - May). Funds go toward pay those that have dug, creating a concrete sleeve on the inside of the well, and providing a cap to prevent contamination from wandering wild life. Hand dugs wells are used frequently in the tribal villages where we work because they are not accessible from main roads for larger drilling equipment and the maintenance required for a drilled well.

Drilled Well - $7,000

Drilled wells are the best solution for providing clean water for a community year round. A drilled well provides triple the capacity of a hand dug well, but it comes with a higher initial cost and must be kept up with a regular maintenance schedule. We work with Pastors to create a plan that is now being used to maintain and repair wells to sustain this as a long term solution. In a country that is so far behind in infrastructure, it is just not feasible to provide this solution every time. The need for each village is determined on a case by case basis, and dictated by Burkinabe leaders.

Churches/Hangars - $4,500

A Hangar is placed in a village where a Pastor has begun to minister and had some initial success in spreading the gospel. A Hangar is simply steel post set in concrete and a tin roof. Each village is then responsible for raising the funds and providing their own bricks, or however they choose to cover the sides. Some have used millet stalks to cover the sides. The activity of placing the posts and putting on the roof can be accomplished by teams who visit from Engage Burkina Sponsoring churches.Churches are built among villages of unreached people groups. Currently, we are working in the bush area of SW Burkina Faso where there are over two dozen unreached people groups. People groups are targeted for evangelism and development by African Pastors who set the direction concerning what villages are ready and in need of a structure.

These bikes are built for people who have contracted a condition that cripples their body due to malnutrition. Bikes can be purchased by individuals for our partners on the ground to have them made and given out. We will also provide follow up concerning the person the sponsored bike is given to. Each churches wish to have one of these made and present it to someone as part of a team experience, that opportunity can be made available as well.

Malaria Nets - $12

Sponsored malaria nets are given out to students in schools we partner with and to sites run by Compassion International for their leaders to give to families that have the greatest need. We buy only insecticide treated nets (ITN). ITN's are estimated to be twice as effective as untreated nets, and offer greater than 70% protection compared with no net. Although ITN are proven to be very effective against malaria, less than 2% of children in urban areas in Sub-Saharan Africa are protected by ITNs. For maximum effectiveness, nets need to be replaced or retreated with insecticide every 6 months. That leaves this as an ongoing opportunity for serving the people in Burkina Faso.

Donate To Build A School

In an effort to add to the longterm success and stability of this country we are investing in education. With the literacy rate being so high we feel this is a primary need. Only 20% of the children in this country are able to go to school. Many of them are put to work right away in an agricultural setting or set out into the streets to beg. Currently, we are partnered with a top rated High School in the country called, Lycee Alliance Christienne (LAC). We hope to build on the strength of this school and expand its capacity by adding classrooms, bath facilities, security measures, and other items required for students to be housed here, before moving on to other sites that have already been determined. If your church or business would like more information on how to sponsor specific items from whole classrooms, to an individual desk contact us at paul@engageburkina.com.
