The first time my husband Brian returned home from Burkina Faso, I found myself looking at his trip pictures in awe. One set of pictures especially caught my attention. Women, cooking for hundreds of students on a daily basis, were cooking in the dirt. As a woman with my own kitchen, appliances and refrigeration, I felt an urgency to help provide something better for these precious ladies. The Burkina Kitchen Project is a part of Engage Burkina, and we are working to provide healthy environments, kitchen appliances, food and clean water for the women and children of Burkina Faso. When I cook dinner, I often consider that the small donation that I can make will make a huge difference in the lives of real people, and in my lifetime, I know that I can be a part of something bigger than myself!
